Who can I ask for financial support to attend the conference?

- Rotary Club www.rotary.org/
- Kiwanis Club www.kiwanis.org/

How do I ask for Money?
Check out our toolbox for making a funding request, this has a lot of good talking points and is primarily geared towards on-campus requests:
Toolbox: Making the Case
General Tips:
- Type out your request letter and have a friend or mentor check the letter for spelling, grammar, and wording.
- If you need to present the letter in person, be on-time and dress nicely for the meeting.
- Share your enthusiasm for the event, and others will want to support you to go.
- Be clear about your goals and objectives.
- Link the event back to the mission of the group/individual that you are asking for money.
Fundraising
Many students have also found it helpful to organize a small fundraiser to support themselves and others from their campus to attend the conference.
- Bake Sale
- Car Wash
- Bringing in the Business (many local restaurants and bowling alleys will give you a percentage of their profits on a particular day if you can bring a certain number of people to their store)
- Phone call or personal letter drive (get a few friends together and write letters to friends and family seeking small donations to help you and other students attend the event.
- House Party (invite a bunch of friends over for a potluck and ask everyone to contribute $5-$25 dependent on their availabilities
- Want more ideas? Email katie.maynard@2010sustconf.org, we have many more ideas we can share and we can help give you resources or advice on how to set up your fundraiser.
Scholarships from the CA Higher Education Sustainability Conference
Once you have made an effort to ask at least one other group for money, we encourage you to apply for a scholarship directly from the conference. We have made the questions brief so that we are respectful of your time. Please take note of the word limits on the form. Similarly, please give us enough information that we can fairly review your application.
